Perspex and Brass Bonding

by Henkel June 25, 2010

QUESTION:

Hi, I would like to enquire on the applications of the bonding Loctite. I would like to bond a perspex to a piece of brass plate. The product will be subject to user knocks and shock. It is also required for the Loctite to be clear as visibility is of critical function.

Please advise the general series of Loctite that are suitable for use.

Thank you.

ANSWER:

I would recommend that you evaluate Loctite E-05CL or E-30CL.
These are epoxy 2 part system.

The E-05 is a 5minutes worklife and E-30 is a 30mins worklife. (Depending on how fast you can manage to fix the perspex and brass plate in place.)

The E-30CL might provide a better strength in comparison.
Hope this helps and feel free to contact us if you have further queries.

Thank you for your enquiry to the iLoctite webpage

QUESTION:

I want to repair the motor of my model car and have to bond a
nickel-plated magnet.

Which adhesive would you recommend?

ANSWER:

LOCTITE® 331™ + Activator 7387™
(2-part, no mix acrylic; uses activator 7387)

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

LOCTITE® 331™ is a toughened acrylic adhesive with medium viscosity. This adhesive is designed for bonding metal substrates and is well suited for DC motor assembly, magnet bonding, and bonding of pre-coated sheet metal. The cured product provides high shear and impact strength with excellent environmental and chemical resistance.

TYPICAL CURING PERFORMANCE

LOCTITE® 331™ is designed to be used with Activator 7387™ and cured at room temperature. Cure characteristics are measured by determining fixture time (handling time) and speed of cure.

Activator 7387™ is designed to initiate the cure of Loctite toughened acrylic adhesives.
